Fresh Food Access Associate (ShareCorps VISTA)

Accountable to: Community Development Planner

Position:  The Food Access Associate will assist WIN’s Community Development Planner to further resident-driven community development goals in the South Cumminsville neighborhood related to community health, fresh food access, and urban agriculture.

 Responsibilities include: 

  • Identifying resources and education materials for new gardeners that help them learn to grow their own food, either as part of the South Cumminsville Community Garden or in their own home gardens
  • Working with community members to identify and determine feasibility of a second community garden
  • Providing logistical support to expand the weekly “Harvest Day” pilot program, which will provide residents with the opportunity to purchase affordable, locally grown fresh food in the community
  • Connecting SNAP-eligible residents to the Produce Perks program
  • Maintaining & establishing new partnerships to increase food access.

Qualifications:

  • 21 and older, high school diploma or GED required, degree preferred
  • Able to pass criminal/drug screens
  • One-year commitment, 40 hours/week between June 30th,  2017 through June 29th, 2018. Working at another job and/or  school attendance during off hours permitted.
  • Great interpersonal communication and community outreach skills
  • Experience working in diverse low-income communities
  • General office and computer skills
  • Writing and research skills
  • Team-oriented
  • Interest in nutrition, community health  and/or  urban  agriculture

Net Zero Housing Associate (OCDCA VISTA)

Position:  The Net Zero Housing Associate will assist WIN’s Community and Housing Development Team as we implement the South Cumminsville Net Zero Urban Village project. 

 Responsibilities include: 

  • Community outreach to recruit eligible homeowners for WIN efficiency upgrades/retro-fitting of
    ten homes
  • Assist WIN’s Community Development Planner during the process of updating the South Cumminsville Community Improvement Plan, including outreach for resident input, logistical assistance for community meetings, data collection, and other support needed to produce an updated planning document
  • Developing and promoting energy efficiency workshops, including research, outreach, publicity, etc.
  • Working with WIN staff to develop and implement a Marketing strategy and materials to promote South Cumminsville and market WIN’s Net-Zero Urban Village project

Qualifications:

  • 21 and older, related degree preferred
  • Able to pass criminal/drug screens
  • One-year commitment, 40 hours/week (July 3, 2017-July 2, 2018)
  • Great interpersonal skills, experience working in diverse low-
    income communities
  • General office and computer skills, writing and research, community outreach, team-oriented,
  • Background in sustainability, environmental studies, planning, or marketing
