Join LISC AmeriCorps and Serve with WIN
LISC Greater Cincinnati is inviting individuals to apply to become a LISC AmeriCorps member for the 2017-2018 service term. The focus of LISC AmeriCorps is for members to help create economic opportunity for people who are struggling and to improve the quality of life in their communities. WIN is pleased to be a site this year, and is seeking a candidate for outreach, volunteer recruitment and communications that promote community-based initiatives in the Lower Mill Creek Valley neighborhoods (South Cumminsville, Millvale, and North & South Fairmount). Member service begins October 1, 2017. Full-time members serve 10-month terms ending July 31, 2018.
Interested in becoming a member? The next step in the process is to attend a brief AmeriCorps informational meeting. Meetings will be held weekly until September 5, when the application period will close for the year. Attendance is required for member application. Email Alison Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org to register. For more information about LISC AmeriCorps and links to project descriptions, visit Greater Cincinnati LISC.
Moving South Cumminsville Out of Poverty through Sustainability: Net Zero Urban Village
South Cumminsville is a close-knit community, but it’s also one that is looking to eliminate poverty within a generation.
“About 3 years ago, we were asked by the community in South Cumminsville to help move the community out of poverty and to create a healthier place so that people would live longer and have opportunities for their grandchildren,” said Sister Barbara Busch, the Executive Director for Working in Neighborhoods.
While there are many gears that have to turn at same time to achieve their goal, one of those gears involves sustainable energy.
